Introduction to Heresite Coatings
In the past decades, industrial HVAC systems or other commercial, industrial equipment are facing difficulties in handling the deterioration of equipment performance and short shelf-life especially when they were placed in a severe corrosive, extreme pH and high salt content’s environment.
The introduction of Heresite protective coatings application on HVAC heating ventilation (heating, cooling, refrigeration or other industrial process coils and components) further improvise the coil unit performance including heat transfer reduction as well as optimization of fan power requirements.
In accordance with the leading control organization, NACE International, one of the biggest single expenses in the worldwide economy is corrosion.
NACE predicts that by implementing corrosion management methods by application of a thin film, high performance Heresite protective coating, businesses might cost down expenditures by approximately 15% to 35% in relevant to:-
Corrosion-related inspection, repairing and maintenance work
Parts replacement, inventory, and installation tasks
Production related losses
As a sustainable business practice, Heresite protective coatings applications are vital to reduce environmental impacts, increased profitability, and remarkable social responsibility.
Types of Heresite Coatings
In the market today, there are two main types of heresite coatings we are able to opt for as below:-
1. Air-Dry Coatings
Air-Dry Coatings apply a thin, flexible film on the HVAC heating ventilation coil and is designed to prolong the shelf life of HVAC-R and other heat transfer equipment.
Due to the unique characteristics of the film coated, it is said to be ideal for heat transfer as well as protection of coil against humidity, saltwater and chemicals.
As time goes on, the development of Air-Dry Coatings evolved into a next level of protection which inclusive of:-
● HereShield (WB-506) Water-based Air-dry Coating
● ES-606 High-Performance Epoxy-Silane

Heresite VR-514 possesses properties such as excellent durability and adhesion, outstanding film building and high flexibility.
Once it is cured, a hard and corrosion resistant film is formed which is commonly recommended as a heavy-duty coating for exposure to marine / salt water environments.
In addition, Heresite VR-514 coalesced with the application of a topcoat Heresite UC-5500 onto the HVAC heating ventilation equipment for direct UV protection purpose.
2. Baked Phenolics
Like its name of the term itself, baked phenolics is the application of Heresite protective coating which is cured under the presence of a batch oven.
Baked phenolics industrial coatings show outstanding resistance of chemicals including 98% sulfuric acid, formaldehyde and other acids.
There are two selections under baked phenolics Heresite coating:-
● P-403L High Bake Phenolic
● P-413 Baked Phenolic Epoxy
TCW Group provides Heresite baked phenolic coating with P-413, which is a thin film with high performance coating specifically used for coil and radiator heat exchangers. The table below shows the SWAAT results after 1,000 hours.
Heresite Protective Coatings Applications & Its Benefits
There are 4 main segments of Heresite protective coatings applications as below:-
1. HVAC Coating Protection
Scientific data shows that 40% of all industrial HVAC systems failures are directly, or indirectly linked to corrosion.
Heresite coatings ensure a large economic gain when applied to coils, radiators or other process equipment as they are proven to triple the shelf-life of the equipment.
As a result, corrosion prevention contributes to the air quality improvement and optimized energy efficiency of the equipment.
On the other hand, due to the thin-filmed Heresite coatings applied, the impact on thermal loss efficiency is almost negligible, allowing the designers to have no hiccups on sizing or other design element selections deemed necessary.
Besides, Heresite also acts as an upgrade for the protection of factory-applied HVAC coatings.
For instance, in moderately or severely corrosive environments such as water treatment plants, swimming pools or marine / seaside, the Heresite phenolic coating coalesced with a topcoat of condensers, evaporators, copper piping results in a more acidic-resistant unit.
As the Heresite phenolic coating’s characteristics, they are commonly implemented to provide HVAC protection in high salinity coastal regions and in harsh environments (high corrosive chemicals and pH) such as:-
● Wastewater Treatment Plants
● Petroleum refineries
● Fossil fuel power plants
● Off-shore drilling platforms
● Scientific laboratories / Medical facilities
● Food processing and storage facilities
● Retail businesses / Malls
● Swimming pool environment
2. HVAC Coil Protection
In the past decades, in order to meet the needs of the most vulnerable situations such as maritime, pool, wastewater treatment, urban, algricultural, food processing, transit and mining operating environments, Heresite has continued to develop its protective HVAC coil coatings.
As an advantage, it is able to extend the lifespan of the coils via coil coatings:-
● Condenser coils
● Finned tube coils
● Refrigeration coils
● Evaporators
● Other HVAC heating ventilation components such as fan, blowers, hoods, dampers, louvers, grills, ductwork and piping
3. HVAC Industrial Equipment Protection
One of the unique characteristics of Heresite protective coatings is their superior bond strength and capacity to function in extreme temperatures, allowing it to halt corrosion of inner and external surfaces of industrial HVAC systems’ equipment.
Application of a UV protectant topcoat is viable in the case that the equipment is exposed under direct sunlight; whereas in high-humidity environments, the innovation of Heresite’s Hydrophilic HL-300 reduces the contact angle of water exposed to the equipment’s surface.
Applications of Heresite protective coating on industrial equipment are made possible for:-
● HVAC-R units
● Rooftop Equipment and unitary systems
● Air Exchangers
● Radiators
● Oil Coolers
● Fin Fan Coolers
● Heat Exchangers
● Intercoolers
4. Extreme Coastal Environment Protection
A study has shown that sodium chloride and pollutants are corrosive-impulsive towards HVAC coils and these 2 elements present in marine or coastal environments on most occasions.
Without protective coatings, the possibility for quick and extremely harmful corrosion on HVAC coils and units are unavoidable due to the presence of sodium chloride (salt), temperature changes and UV exposure.
Benefits of Heresite HVAC’s Coatings
The evolution of Heresite protective coatings towards industrial HVAC systems blossoms rapidly as the demand in the market shows positive growth over the years.
Additionally unique to this industry is that the geometry of heat exchangers with complex internal surfaces, the coating process and thickness must be aligned with these market-specific considerations in order to preserve the efficiency.
In commercialized world, Heresite HVAC’s coatings bring core values in such ways:-
1. Shelf-Life Extension with Improved Functionality
A study has shown that the unit life could be extended more than triplet of its original, with appropriate Heresite protective coatings applied onto the coils of an HVAC unit.
The characteristics of the protective coatings such as thin, flexible film yet durable enable the HVAC heating ventilation equipment operating in a minimal loss in efficiency and performance (almost negligible) even if they are placed at a corrosive environment.
It is proven that Heresite coatings are not only able to assist consumers in understanding the potential wasted time they could encounter without its application, and the importance of Heresite coatings on HVAC further saves up a lot of hassles including servicing costs and parts replacement in the long run.
Heresite has a Chemical Resistance Guide featuring over 400 chemicals and this considering the product units demonstrated invulnerable performance even operating in a very harsh environment.
By meeting the ISO12944-9 standard for severe offshore and marine environments, it drastically improves the service life of HVAC-R and other HVAC heat transfer equipment.
2. Virus-Prone
Heresite P-413 served the purpose in adapting UV-C light and protecting the metals and coils from environmental corrosion in coastal, urban and agricultural areas alongside with waste water treatment (high humidity area).
The test carried out with coated Heresite P-413 in UV-C shows its integrity after exposure making it a good combination in delivering a protective defense layer against virus spread in an enclosed area and vulnerable environment.
In food safety standards compliance, which require chemical sanitization in food processing environments, UV-C lights are being implemented to sterilize HVAC coils and recirculated air.
In conjunction with Sanuvox Technologies laboratory, P-413 Heresite coating is being tested to withstand continued exposure to UV-C light.
3. Reliability Proven Testing
Both the ISO12944-9 standard for offshore maritime settings and the ISO20340 standard for harsh environments could be met by Heresite coatings.
Instead of traditional static salt-spray test (ASTM-B117), Heresite has undergone more intensive cyclic testing with the compliance of ISO12944-9 or ISO 20340 procedure cycles through salt spray, sunlight, acid rain and freezing weekly up to 25 weeks.
The results tested further proved that a coating which performs excellently with statis ASTM B-117 salt spray test is not necessarily passing the intensive cyclic test mentioned above.
No matter the selection of Heresite varies between air-dry coatings or baked phenolics, it is assured that both applications are able to secure parts’ reliability proven as results below.
Summary
It’s proven that Heresite protective coatings have provided enormous confidence to the market consumers and commercial businesses in the event of preserving quality of HVAC industrial systems equipment in various environmental conditions, inclusive of permanent exposure to sunlight, rain, saltwater, fumes and in maritime.
