It's common to mix up ventilation and air conditioning. Unlike air conditioning, which merely cools and/or heats the air inside a structure, ventilation actually involves the exchange of stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air.


The air that an air conditioning system blows out is not fresh air from the outside, as is a frequent misconception; rather, it is simply recirculated, cooled air.


The air is typically drawn up through the center of a normal ceiling-mounted air conditioner, cooled, and then blown out of the side-facing louvres.

Typically, when we think of "air conditioning," we picture devices that use heat removal to chill the surrounding air.

It should come as no surprise that using an air conditioner is one of the best methods to stay cool and avoid getting sick from the heat.

How Does Air Conditioning Work?

Heat is removed from the air and sent outside by air conditioning devices. The heat from the air is absorbed by the refrigerant in the air conditioning system and then released outside.


The cooled air is then recirculated inside the structure, enhancing the interior air quality and the occupants’ comfort.
